Biography

Brian Bowman is an assistant professor of Communication Studies. He also co-facilitates a faculty cohort that explores questions of calling and vocation.

Bowman’s areas of academic interest include media messages, media literacy, and artificial intelligence. With more than 20 years of professional experience in the communication field, he works closely with students to develop a better understanding of media messages and their role in a free society.

Prior to returning to his alma mater, Bowman was a news reporter at WRAL and a public relations professional. His public relations work earned numerous national and regional awards from peer groups for video and social media.

Bowman is a NetVUE Faculty Fellow and recipient of the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2020. He holds an M.A. in Digital Communication from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. and a B.A. in Mass Communication from Campbell.
