Biography
Bruce W. Newton, PhD is Professor and Chair of Anatomy. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology at Slippery Rock University, Slippery Rock, PA. and a Ph.D. in Anatomy at the University of Kentucky, Lexington, KY. He participated in post-doctoral work in Neurobiology at the University of Rochester in Rochester, NY. Basic Science Research: Development of afferents into spinal autonomic regions; gonadal hormone control of sexual dimorphism of spinal motoneuron systems; testicular descent; sex differences in pain. Educational Research: Changes in affective and cognitive empathy as students progress through their undergraduate medical education; development of critical-thinking skills; motivation. Teaching Abilities: Gross Anatomy; Histology; Embryology; Neuroanatomy/Neuroscience. He was presented with the International Association of Medical Science Educators (IAMSE) Master Teacher Award in 2016.
