Biography

A 2007 Campbell graduate, Nathan Rice was named Senior Associate Athletics Director for Advancement in February 2023.

Rice joined the Fighting Camels athletics department after serving in the University’s Institutional Advancement Office as Director of Development since 2017.

“I am thrilled for Nathan to join our TEAM,” said Bazemore. “He has an unwavering passion and commitment to Campbell University and Campbell Athletics. His experience in development along with the depth of his institutional knowledge are exactly what we need for Campbell Athletics.”

In his new role, Rice leads a comprehensive advancement program for Campbell Athletics, including all fundraising efforts with an emphasis on annual giving and major gifts, and serves as Executive Director of the Fighting Camel Club.

A Mebane, N.C. native, Rice worked closely with the Lundy-Fetterman School of Business as Director of Development, assisting in fundraising efforts across campus, and providing leadership for university advancement operations and guidance for matters regarding philanthropy and higher education.

Under his leadership as the head fundraiser, more than $10 million in philanthropic gifts and commitments were secured for the Lundy-Fetterman School of Business.

Rice worked with the Dean to identify advancement priorities at the school level and solicit charitable support, growing results to more than $2 million annually for the last two fiscal years. These funds enabled the establishment of the Truist Business Scholars program, Rose Center for Peer Mentorship, Burt Family Student Investment Fund, Shouse renovation for PGA Golf Management, and dozens of endowed scholarships.

Additionally, Rice helped complete the “Campbell Leads” fundraising campaign, which raised approximately $105.7 million from 2016-21 for a new student union, university endowment, Fund for Campbell, and special projects.

Rice began his career at Campbell in 2013 as an undergraduate admissions officer, and was elevated to Assistant Director of Undergraduate Admissions in 2015.

There, he supervised a team of admissions officers and managed national recruitment for independent schools, faith-based and homeschool communities, nearly doubling the number of matriculated students for those areas during his time. Rice also represented the admissions office in the inaugural tour for then-incoming University President, Dr. J. Bradley Creed.

Rice served as Campbell’s representative on the Harnett County Economic Development Council from 2017-22, and as a Wyndham Championship chairperson from 2009-12 and 2015-16. He currently serves on the board for the Harnett County Community Foundation.

He earned his bachelor of arts in religion from Campbell in 2007, and completed his master of divinity at Wake Forest University in 2012.

Rice loves music and spending time outdoors. He and his wife Kristin, a 2008 Campbell graduate, live in Raleigh, with their three beagles: Coraline, Copper, and Charlie. They are active members of First Baptist Church on Salisbury Street.
