Biography

Originally from Glasgow, Scotland, Dr. Anthony Holmes is an Assistant Professor in Exercise Science with expertise in Physical Activity and 24-hour Movement Behavior research. He received his bachelor’s degree in Sport and Physical Activity at Strathclyde University, and his master’s degree in Sport and Exercise Science & Medicine from the University of Glasgow, both based in Glasgow, Scotland. Most recently he received his PhD in Exercise Physiology (Health and Physical Activity) from the University of Pittsburgh and completed a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at The University of South Carolina.

Dr. Holmes has taught in multiple disciplines across Exercise Science including Physical Activity for Health, Behavior Change Strategies, Exercise Psychology, Research Methods in Exercise Science and more. His primary research interests are in the area of Physical Activity for Health and the impact of 24-hour behaviors on health outcomes across the lifespan. Dr. Holmes remains active in the research community with organizations, regularly attending national conferences such as ACSM, AHA, and ISBNPA and provides students with the opportunity for research experience and collaboration.
