Biography

John Norman, Jr. joined the Campbell Divinity School staff in November of 2023. From State Road, NC (Wilkes County), John has called North Carolina home most of his life, though he has also lived in Arizona and Kentucky.

Before becoming a Campbell Camel, John pastored the First Baptist Church of Four Oaks for 26 years. He has also pastored Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Mt. Eden, KY and been pastor in the interim in the mountains of North Carolina. In addition, John has served in a variety of ministerial contexts, including field personnel (missionary) for the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship along with his wife Michele as China Team Advocates, volunteer chaplain at UNC Health in Smithfield, adjunct instructor for Gardner-Webb University and Johnston Community College, Church Relations Director for Habitat for Humanity of Johnston County, member of Bikers for Christ, counselor at Camp Caraway, and leader of Christian High Adventure in North Carolina.

John has attended various educational institutions throughout his academic career. He graduated from Gardner-Webb University (B.A. in Religion), Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (M.Div.), and Duke University (Th.M.). He also completed graduate studies at Princeton Theological Seminary.

John enjoys buying books to add to the stack that he hopes to someday read, riding his Harley-Davidson Superglide, and fishing along the coast and in mountain streams. He especially enjoys fly-fishing because, as John’s Uncle Ed says, “trout don’t live in any ugly places.” John and Michele have two daughters. Meilyn is a graduate of Wake Forest University and Laley is a student at App State. They reside in the Four Oaks area with their yellow lab Nick.
