She is also a certified NCBI National Coalition Building and True Colors International Facilitator, as well as a QPR Suicide Prevention Course Instructor.

Originally from Moultrie, GA, Katy fell in love with North Carolina while at NC State and decided to stay forever. Her passion for Higher Education and Student Affairs began at Florida State where she served as a Resident Advisor for three years. She has served in the roles of Coordinator of Student Engagement for Leadership and Multicultural Education at Louisburg College, Residence Life Coordinator at NC State, Achievement Coach at Wayne Community College, and Student Activities Coordinator at Central Carolina Community College.

Katy’s passions lie in student leadership development, student support, college access, mental health and well-being, and breaking down barriers that prevent students from succeeding in college. Above all, she works to help students know that they are seen, they are heard, and to know that they matter.

In her free time, Katy enjoys reading, cooking, trying new foods, hanging out with friends, gaming, and spending time with her family and two cats.
