Biography

Matthew Kesic earned his BS and MS in Molecular Genetics from Youngstown State University. He received his PhD in Virology and Immunology from The Ohio State University. He had over 10 years of higher education teaching experience before transitioning from teaching health science education to practicing clinical medicine. He received his Master of Physician Assistant Practice from Campbell University in 2020. After practicing at Duke Urgent Care, he returned to his passion of teaching in 2021.

Dr. Kesic’s research is studying the protease/antiprotease balance in the airway of asthma patients and how this influences susceptibility to a viral infection. He has extensive experience in molecular & cellular biology techniques along with a repertoire of newly develop mechanistic viral assays. Dr. Kesic is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants and licensed by the North Carolina Medical Board. He is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, the North Carolina Academy of Physician Assistants, and the Physician Assistant Education Association. He is an editorial board member for the Journal of Bones and Muscles Study.
