Biography

Brian Bowman focuses on storytelling, primarily through media. With more than 20 years of experience in the communication industry, he works closely with students to develop a better understanding of media messages and their role in a free society.

Bowman was a news reporter at WRAL News (Raleigh/Durham metro area) and a news reporter/anchor at WNCT (Greenville, NC) before transitioning to public relations. His public relations work earned numerous national and regional awards from peer groups for video and social media.

Bowman holds an M.A. in Technology and Communication from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. His thesis work included analysis of Paid, Owned, and Earned Media (POE) that were used to attract businesses to downtown Raleigh and Durham.

Bowman earned the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2020. He is a certified College Media Advisor through the College Media Association.
